In Conversation with Lisa Anderson and Stephen Miller
An intimate evening of art, culture, and critical conversation

Join us for an intimate evening of art, culture, and critical conversation as we dive deeper into American Girl, the bold and subversive exhibition by New York artist Stephen Miller, currently on view at art’otel London Hoxton.
On Friday, June 6th, from 7:00 – 8:00 PM, Miller will be in conversation with Lisa Anderson, Director of Black British Art, exploring the themes, inspirations, and provocations behind his latest body of work.
American Girl dissects and reimagines the visual language of American identity, drawing from pop art, hyperreal glamour, and incisive social commentary. Through photography, mixed media, and screen-printed works, Miller examines fame, femininity, and the commodification of culture—challenging audiences to rethink the icons and ideals that define “America” on a global stage.
This panel talk will unpack:
- The making of American Girl
- The influence of artists like Warhol, LaChapelle, and Gordon Parks
- Art as critique: nostalgia, celebrity culture & the American dream
- Representation, myth-making, and visual storytelling in the digital age
Expect a lively discussion that goes beyond aesthetics—addressing art’s power to question, confront, and reframe cultural narratives.
