In the Studio with RICE Barcelona
Artist in Residence: RICE BARCELONA
We’re buzzing to be welcoming Eduard Sacrest Soy, known in the artist world as RICE Barcelona, as our artist in residence for the next 2 months. RICE is a visual artist who studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. His work revolves around creating artistic intervention in public space, using the environment and landscape as his canvas to express his interests, concerns and reflections through painting and murals.
Feel free to pop in any time to our studio, located in the first floor to take a peak at what RICE is up to. Keep an eye on our What’s on Page for workshops with RICE.

What’s your ‘go to’ Gallery in London?
I always like to discover new galleries; I feel in a city like London you never stop finding new and exciting art galleries and exhibitions. One of my MUST GO galleries are Tate Modern and Tate Britain, The Serpentine and all the independent galleries near the Piccadilly area.
Where can we see some of your pieces?
All around London you can find pieces of me, but mostly South, around Stockwell, Southwark and Clapham.
Favourite Mural Piece in east London?
The Banksy murals you have in the hotel!
What are your main sources of inspiration?
Dance, theater, films, photography, poetry, painting and the people! When I have a lack of inspiration I just go to walk and see life passing by, and it is great in London.
What sounds do you like to work to?
I like to listen to music or podcasts when I work, mainly when I paint. When I need to focus or to think deeply, I just need to be friends with the silence.
What does community in the art world look like to you?
Community is basically us, the people. We are all part of a community: a building community, a school community, a neighborhood community… Personally I feel community in the art world is basic, mainly because with art we express and communicate ourselves, and without an audience or without people aiming to take part of that, art wouldn’t be here.
What excites you most about the creative communities in East London?
East London is very famous for its artists community and its creativity industry. East is also the starting point of street art and graffiti in London, is where everyone wants to go to paint or to visit. The diversity of the East is great and I feel it is very inspiring.
What is some advice you would give to aspiring creatives and artists in London?
To be patient, to work hard and to stick close to your friends, to create networks and to believe in what you do.
