SCHUYLER BAILAR
Schuyler Miwon Hong Bailar (Born May 2, 1996) is an Author, Educator, American swimmer, and advocate for LGBT rights. He’s known for being the first openly transgender NCAA Division I swimmer and the first transgender man in NCAA D1 sports to compete as a man.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding trans people in sports for many years now. This ideology is deeply rooted in transphobia and has seeped into this year’s 2024 Olympics seeing female Algerian boxer Imane Khelif disqualified for… well for being good at boxing and not looking like a ‘typical cis woman’. In the face of this hatred, I want to celebrate figures like Schuyler Bailar who is an incredibly talented swimmer, athlete and proud transgender man making waves in the sport world and pushing the needle forward for his community
